Dear Mr. Johnson:
We would like to express our support for a decision to grant Jefferson County PUD# 1 a
permit to use public lands for installing a water distribution system on Marrowstone
Island. As you probably are aware, Marrowstone is in dire need of public water due to
sea water intrusion into wells and wells going dry. Any environmental impacts are indeed
negligible. Wetland areas (actually most of those identified should be more properly
identified as dampland areas) will be avoided to the greatest extent possible.
Marrowstone has very little direct runoff to salt water, most being through natural
seepage.
This project was approved two years ago and delays due to protest actions from a group
of a very few activists have proven to be expensive due to litigation expenses, material
cost increases, less favorable interest rates, and increased labor rates.
