Dear Sir or Madam:
My wife and I wish to express our wholehearted support for the planned public water
system in our island community.
Marrowstone Island has a longstanding ground water supply problem. There are many
residents who desperately need a reliable and safe water supply because their wells have
either ceased to produce adequate quantity or have been contaminated with saltwater.
The planned water system will provide necessary relief for those homeowners on the
island that need water immediately as well as those who have adequate water supply now,
but will likely need help in the future.
The majority of residents on the island are in favor of the water system and recognize the
overwhelming need for this basic utility service in our community. Please do not allow
the current Land Use Review Process to become poisoned with nonsensical rhetoric and
unfounded claims of negative environmental impacts to the island. Some of those in
opposition to the water system may be loud and vitriolic, but they are in a clear minority
regardless of their continuing efforts to thwart the project through any possible means.
Their opprobrious behavior and efforts have delayed the project for over two years which
has resulted in a substantial cost increase for all of us on the island. Please do the right
thing and allow the PUD to construct this badly needed water supply to our island.
