See the Photos <https://wsac.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6943e0d4535671f24022ca02a&id=cefd36e1b9&e=30e2d4045f> STATE NEWS Dozens in Washington Could Be Paid Thousands for Waiting in Jail for Treatment A KIRO 7 investigation discovered that judges have ordered dozens of people to receive thousands of dollars in payments from the state for waiting in jail for mental health treatment, so that they can participate in their own trials. Documents obtained by KIRO 7 show the Washington Department of Social and Health Services has already paid out $158,150 in 2022 in what are called “compensatory sanctions” in 10 people’s cases. Records show that in five of those cases the money was paid directly to those individuals, while in the other cases it went through courts, a nonprofit, family, or another appointed responsible adult on behalf of that person. That money is now coming to state governments, counties, and cities to pay for roads, bridges, broadband, drinking water, and many other infrastructure needs. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has a new map showing where internet service is – and is not – available across the country, down to the location level. As part of the FCC’s Broadband Data Collection, internet service providers report where they make internet services available. The FCC reviews the data and then publishes it on the National Broadband Map. You can easily dispute, or challenge, information shown on the map that you believe is inaccurate. An accurate map will help identify the unserved and underserved communities most in need of funding for high-speed internet infrastructure investments. Please share this information with your residents in order to help the FCC get the most up-to-date data available.
