SUMMARY Computes and collects payments from customers at the County Solid Waste
Transfer Station by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES includes the following. Other duties
within the scope of position summary may be assigned.
Greets customers and utilizes a computer program in conjunction with the scales that records
traffic count and weight, calculates fees, and records charges.
Coordinates records of transactions with Public Works Financial Staff.
Oversees customers during ingress and egress from the Transfer Station site.
Handles cash and maintains cash drawer; makes change, and issues receipts or tickets to
customers.
Records amounts received and prepare reports of transactions. Performs data entry of
information into electronic data processing or manual systems.
Participates in the annual training program and annual performance evaluation process.
Reads and records totals shown on computer and verifies against cash on hand.
Provides general information to the public regarding departmental services and activities.
Answers and directs incoming telephone calls. Responds to questions or refers the public to the
appropriate person to respond to questions, complaints, and problems.
Trains other employees on the scale and computer operations.
Clean scale house, scales and surrounding area.

QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and two (2) years
related cashiering or solid waste administration experience and/or training; or four
(4) years related secretarial experience and/or training in general business
curriculum including basic office skills, or equivalent combination of education
and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and
maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports
and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to customers or employees of
the organization.
MA THEMA TICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole
numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and
percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished
in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several
concrete variables in standardized situations.
COMPUTER SKILLS
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of
database software; internet software; spreadsheet software and word processing
software.
CERTIFICATION, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid Washington State Driver's License.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must possess excellent interpersonal skills.
Skills and abilities may be dependent on area of assignment.
Requires ability to learn and understand County standards, forms, and procedures.
Knowledge of personal computers and various software programs.
Ability to successfully complete County Cash Handlers Course and training on computer
software used at the site.
Ability to work in a team based environment.
Knowledge of general office skills in the use of a computer, multi-line telephone, lO-key
calculator, copier, and other common office equipment in area of assignment.
Ability to utilize independent decision making skills to complete daily workload and to assign
priority to tasks to assure those necessary tasks are completed.
Ability to handle multiple, unexpected interruptions on an on-going basis and to maintain a
pleasant, courteous demeanor in dealing with the public in a sometimes stressful environment.

Ability to train and provide guidance to other employees in the operation of the scale house.
Ability to maintain order in scale building and surrounding grounds.
Ability to prioritize, analyze and organize to complete work under tight deadlines. Ability to
multi-task.
Ability to maintain professional manner with the public and staff; interact in a professional
manner with Department Head, other officials, county employees, contractors, vendors, and the
public.
