Cloutier [hhcloutier@primaalfa.com] Saturday, July 15, 2006 8:38 AM Barbara Nightingale; John Fischbach evz@cablespeed.com; Bert Loomis Trendwest Dear Sirs, I am a resident of Port Ludlow and write to express my implacable opposition to approval of any application that would permit or facilitate the establishment of a Trendwest facility at Port Ludlow. The PLA and Trendwest have pursued a most pernicious campaign of disinformation concerning their proposal. 1. The latest manifestation thereof is an effort by the PLA to imply that creation of such a facility would result in significantly increased tax revenues to the county and to the state without, of course, revealing that the tax revenues resulting from the construction of single-family homes within existing permits would be far larger. 2. The PLA continues to promulgate the outright lie that, should the project proceed, the PLA would use the proceeds to construct a new golf clubhouse. The PLA has, on multiple previous occasions, asserted that, if only such and such were to occur, they would build a new golf clubhouse, whereas they have absolutely no intention whatsoever of ever doing so nor of providing any of the amenities required by the Master Plan and the existing permits. 3. Trendwest and the PLA have implied that the existence of a timeshare facility would benefit local commerce. No sensible food merchant would invest in a mini-supermarket in Port Ludlow, which could not possibly compete with the breadth and freshness of the markets in Poulsbo, Port Hadlock and Port Townsend. The only effect would be the inundation of the present convenience store by a horde of timeshare occupants during the mere two to three summer months of the year that they would be be in occupancy 4. One need only visit the Trendwest facility at Discovery Bay to see how the Soviet-era barracks desecrate what was an attractive site. 5. Despite the efforts to tout increased commerce, the PLA has, in their Ludlow Village expansion plan, provided that the Harbormaster cafe is to be reduced in capacity, not increased to provide for the false implication that timeshare occupants wold patronize the cafe. In this connection it should be remembered that one of the first measures accomplished by Trendwest at Discovery Bay was to force the closure of the Oyster House, previously one of the best restaurants on the Peninsula. 6. The PLA is striving to retain Irv Berteig as examiner, because they know that he will, as always in the past, approve anything and everything that is presented to him. The PLA, ultimately owned and controlled by a small group of Hong Kong chinamen, has no interest whatsoever in the future of Port Ludlow. Their only motivation is to peddle every last square metre of land and then scamper with the maximum loot they can extract. Thus, they are desparate to generate the $3'600'000 from the sale of what is junk land to Trendwest. The existence of a Trendwest facility at Port Ludlow witl destroy the atmosphere and ambiance of the resort. The sort of people who are their clients are simply very different indeed from the sort of present Port Ludlow homeowner. I urge you to deny the present application and any future applications that would allow the establishment at Port Ludlow of a timeshare facility. 1 L()G ITEM ,:) I ____ L . ~o( ?-
