Her parents had to move in the 80’s when there was a strike. Her family relocated to Federal Way where Kim continued to live even after her parents retired back to Port Townsend. “When Habitat asked me to tell my story, I didn’t know where to start,” says Kim. That equates to almost 44 hours per day, every day of the year! What is a CP+? They are someone who has both a Competent Person certification and a First Aid/CPR/AED certification—this can be a member of staff or a volunteer. The Competent Person certification ensures that they are capable of identifying existing and predictable hazards in the surroundings or working conditions which are unsanitary, hazardous, or dangerous, and who has authorization to take prompt corrective measures to eliminate them. The First Aid/CPR/AED certification ensures that they are able to take prompt and correct action if an accident or other medical emergency occurs. We currently have two volunteers who serve in the CP+ role with varying levels of construction experience. Their help has kept Habitat building when Site Supervisors have meetings or are taking well-earned vacations. We continually offer access to the certification courses for those who might be interested in helping to fill this role.
