RE: Wetland Delineation and Preliminary Wetland Categorization for 5.91 acre
parcel (Tax Assessoi No. 901263020) on Country :Meadow Road; Chimacum
Washington.
Dear Keith & Crystie:
At your request, the subject parcel was investigated on November 4, 2004. The
purpose of this site investigation was.to deterinine the presence and extent.of regulated
wetlands. During the field visit, the northern wetland boundary was delilieated and
flagged: The remaining wetland booodary was not delineated ot flagged but an .
estimated boundary is drawn on the attached map. These boundaries we~e not
delineated as the proposed single family residence and septic system are on th~
northern portion of the property. This letter was prepared to describe our findings and .
any potential current regulatory implications of these findings on the proposed site
development.
The wetiand .delineation was complete4 usirig the Washington. State Wetlands
Identification and Delineation Manual and the categories d~termined.using the Wetland
Rating System for Western W ashington, Sec~nd Edition in accordance with the
Jefferson County Unified Development Code (DDC), Section 3. The wetland
categories are used to determine the appropriate buffers required by.the UDC.
The site investigation and delineation revealed a wetland in the southern portion of the
property. The wetland encompasses part of ~e southern portion and appears to extend
off-site to the south. The stream, Chimacum Creek~ is located in the eastern portion
of the property and flows north. The wetland lies in a depression with a gradual slope
down in a northeastern direction. The wetland hydrology appears to be from
groundwater with an apparent subsurface flow toward the stream. There was no
obvious surface flow connection from the wetland to the stream. The wetland is
dominated by reed canary grass and soft rush. It appears to have historically been
used for grazing. The non-wetland area is dominated by pasture grasses and a conifer
forest in the northwest comer. The wetland appeared to be greater than 10,000 square
feet in size but less than an acre.

The wetland appears to .meet the criteria. for a Category ill system because of its small
size and b~ing composed of one wetland class.(emergent) with low plant species
diversity,. Category ill wetlands require 50 foot buffers in.acconIance with the UDC.
The stream is a known fish bearing stream ni:quiring a 150 foot buffer.
The proposed location for the single family residence is in the forested, northwest .
comer of the prope~. The septic system drainfield is located east of the home site in
the pasture area on the hill. The septic perk holes are approximately 150 feet (reserve
drainfield) and 195 feet (primary) aw.ayfroin.tbe wetland boundary. The stt~am is
more than 200 feet away~ The proposed house location is further west awatfronfthe
stream and wetland. The home an~ septic drainfield proposed locations are on the hill
above the wetland and stream and are well outside the required buffers.

staff qualified to conduct wetland delin,eations. Joanne :Bartlett, a professional wetland
scientist, reviewed these. findings. Wiltermood Associates warrants that the work
. performed is in accordance with the technical guidelmes.and criteria in effect at the.
time this letter was prepared. The findIDgs represent our best professional judgment
based on. information provided by you and gathered in the field. It is important to
acknowledge that determining wetland boundaries is nQt an exact science and different
agencies and individuals may disagree on exact boundaries and categorizations. Any
formal regulatory determinations can only be made by staff from the agencies with
jurisdiction. No other warranty, expressed or implied, is made.
