After careful thought and consideration for the safety of the community, Jefferson Transit staff, and the Jefferson Transit fleet I have made the decision to pause all Jefferson Transit
service on Friday, December 23rd until 9:00 AM.
This will allow Gary, Desiree, and myself to begin checking routes at 6:30 AM instead of 4:00 AM. This will also give us some additional time to evaluate whether or not it is feasible
to ask staff to drive into work. Yesterday and today the #1, #8, #7, and #14 have had almost clear roads. The routes in Port Townsend and the Tri-Area have been giving us problems.
Our downtown shuttle has been operating with chains due to the condition of the uptown area. We’ve been unable to operate the #2 route (even the snow route) due to the packed snow/ice
on the roads. San Juan Avenue is also packed snow/ice. With the addition of snow/freezing rain I anticipate the already concerning roads to be hazardous tomorrow morning.
Staff will be posting an update on our website/social media sites by 8:00 AM tomorrow morning to alert riders what to expect for the rest of the day.
If you receive negative feedback regarding this decision please feel free to pass along those comments to me. I’m more than happy to call riders back and explain my rationale.
