HomeMy WebLinkAboutWritten Comment 12.28.2022BOARD of JEFFERSON COUNTY COMMISSIONERS’: RICKY BEACH DRIVE: As property owners of lot # 57 we would like the County to maintain the possession of the road. We believe there are future development plans from surrounding land owners. By giving the rights to this road to be maintained privately by the current land owners we believe there will be environmental damage. Starting in the 90’s we have been fighting to keep Mr. Trask from developing the hillside. It seems as if every time we come to check on our land we find new roads throughout the hillside as well as new lot markers. It is very apparent to us that there is hope for future development. As owners of the water rights to the Cooper Creek we are concerned by the un natural movement and development of the surrounding properties. We have noticed that there has already been a new road developed near Cooper Creek without any contact to us. Developing the land surrounding us would also harm the beach front. We have owned this land since the 1940s and have personally witnessed the de population of oysters, clams, as well as many different shellfish and wildlife. Concerning the matter that Mr. Trask wishes to have beach access; it is to our knowledge that there is a bank before reaching the beach. To access the beach there will have to be major land movement which will cause environmental damage to the shore. With this current track record of pursuing his own development without surrounding property owners permission or the counties we believe he will not follow shore line management. We would like to know how many stop work orders have been made to Mr. Trask and his current development of the land. And what his wishes are as to the properties above and his concern to having those lots have beach access. If Rickey Beach Drive becomes a private road how does Mr. Trask think he will maintain the road? How would we have access to our property? What security does he plan to provide? We currently park in front of the ecology blocks and walk. Over the years we have seen that road and hillside slide. We believe it would be dangerous to have the potential of big machinery and non property owners the access to the land below. As well as, if Mr. Trask continues to develop without county permission what jurisdiction does the county have to access the road to stop development. We are very aware that there is a drug problem. We have seen little buildings along the shoreline that we believe are being used for drug use. We don’t believe that making Ricky Beach Drive a gated private road will stop the use of drugs, littering and paraphernalia. When it comes to the use of drugs we believe that the police and the state should be taking care of that. We believe dealing with drug addicts is dangerous and should be handled by the authorities. Hope you will address some of our concerns: Thank You, From the Cooper / Long / Jansson Family December 28, 2022
