Of the 10 names up for initial consideration, nine were introduced at prior meetings. The committee chose to defer consideration of those proposed names in order to give proper weight and consideration to community and Tribal input. Of the 14 naming proposals, six are from Tribal governments in response to the United States Department of the Interior’s proposal to rename geographic features in Washington state that currently have derogatory names. The meeting will be held in person at the Natural Resources Building in Olympia and remotely via Zoom, starting at 10 a.m., with opportunities for public comment available.
