Wooden Boat Festival, SEVENTY48, and the Race to Alaska were all back, and bigger. Students were back for in-person, on-the-water, hands-on learning. Thank you for your part in making all of it happen. Beyond returning in full force, we’ve been doing a lot of new things since we hunkered down when the pandemic first hit. This year, we welcomed the second class of 9th graders at Maritime High School. We will be closing out the first year of running The Swan Hotel to help kick off revenue that supports our educational mission and moves the needle for our local economy. We became an anchor organization for the freshly minted Washington Maritime National Heritage Area and, related to this, we are deep in planning and design for the reimagining of our retail store into a Maritime Visitor Center to better connect people to our rich maritime culture. <https://nwmaritime.us17.list-manage.com/track/click?u=cb069e2ef93881d477105d51f&id=5e03d27c85&e=a442042d8d> These different initiatives all have one thing in common: they are all related to creating multiple paths of entry and multiple paths of exploration around people’s relationship with the sea. If you’re reading this, then that relationship with the sea exists for you, whether you simply like standing on the shore looking at the ripples in the water, are a professional mariner, or someone in between. The Maritime Center today is a very different organization than it was in 2019. Between all the old and new things, we are serving more than twice as many students as we did just three years ago, and the impacts have grown to match. What it takes to get it all done remains the same: it needs our entire community’s support. It needs you. Whether you’re a die-hard Wooden Boat Festival fan, a self-confessed R2AK fanatic, a cruiser, a fan of high impact education, or a grandparent who enrolled your grandkids in sailing camp, there is something here that has resonated for you. And as you think of how you can help create that courageous and resilient world, I invite you to make a gift to the Northwest Maritime Center. Thank you for helping create powerful maritime experiences for all. Onward! With gratitude, Jake Beattie Executive Director P.S. If you’ve already made your year-end gift to the Northwest Maritime Center, THANK YOU! Our community is better for your generosity.
