Hello Commissioner Brotherton,
I hope this note finds you well. My name is Micha and I am the senior manager for government and community relations at Hipcamp. In case you're not familiar with Hipcamp, we are an online
booking platform that allows private landowners to open up new and unique places for people to stay, camp, and get outside. This allows landowners - many of whom are farmers and ranchers
- to diversify their income streams while increasing access to the outdoors and taking pressure off public lands resources.
Right now our hosts in Jefferson County - which include commercial campgrounds, some short term rentals, and a mix of other offerings - are bringing in over $200,000 in income annually
via Hipcamp. But some of them are confused about county policies regarding incidental camping (smaller scale and less developed than a traditional commercial campground). As an entrepreneur
yourself, I am sure you understand the difficult nature of trying to interpret county code as a resident, so my job is to help support them and I'm hoping you can help me in that regard.
I'd love to find a time to connect, introduce myself, and share more information about our hosts in Jefferson as well as learn more from you about your thoughts on this type of recreation.
Do you have time in the next few weeks for a phone call or Zoom meeting?
I've attached a factsheet with additional information about Hipcamp and how our platform works, for your reference.
Sincerely,
Micha
