I hope you are getting some much-needed rest after a busy holiday season, though I’m sure with the State Legislative session back underway, there is much on your plates in advocating for Jefferson County. I am writing to let you know that I am stepping aside as Executive Director (ED) of the Jefferson County Historical Society (JCHS) in spring 2023. As an important partner to our work at JCHS, I wanted you to be among the first to know. On assuming the role of ED in 2018, I set out to strengthen and broaden our relationships across the community and the four of you have been a vital part of that network – I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with you! With our New Jefferson Museum <https://www.jchsmuseum.org/About/NewMuseum.html> project full steam ahead, and with a passionate staff and Board, JCHS will continue to be forward thinking and strategic in our work. I’m confident that we won’t skip a beat during this transition as we have incredible momentum and are positioned well for a new chapter of growth. Despite all the pandemic challenges faced by non-profits and our community, art, history, culture, and curiosity are more relevant and vital than ever. It is alongside our partners like the County that we have been able to accomplish so much, and as someone new takes the helm at JCHS, I know you will welcome them as you welcomed me. The Board is actively working on a succession plan and more details around the position will be forthcoming. Rest assured that I’m not going anywhere – our family is planning to stay in Port Townsend and you will definitely see me around! I don’t know what is next for me professionally, but I am looking forward to spending the summer with my son as well as exploring new avenues for how I can serve this community. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me or our Board President, Ann Welch, with any questions. As they say, may the wind find your hair and tousle it a little! Change brings opportunity to make the future a better place, and that’s something I know our community museum stands behind.
