Do not open attachments or click on links if you are not expecting them. ________________________________ County Commissioners, Dr Allison Berry, and Willie Bence, There were no KPTZ listener questions submitted by the noon deadline today, January 13, 2023 for Tuesday January 17, 2023 BOCC health update. That’s pretty amazing considering the amount of Covid 19 coverage in the news. But maybe residents of Jefferson County are well informed from previous health updates and are using all the appropriate mitigation measures in this new year. Or is it Covid fatigue that’s in play? Masking in indoor spaces such as in grocery stores or local businesses has definitely decreased. This has been my observation locally and in counties along the I-5 corridor. While I am still wearing my mask in public indoor places and I do notice quite a few other mask wearers, we are in the minority. As a KPTZ volunteer I conferred with others at the KPTZ station and we generated some questions for the health update next week. Thank you, Lynn Sorensen KPTZ Virus Watch Team Questions for Dr Allison Berry: 1. JCPH is reporting there are estimated 15 times the number of positive cases, since most people don’t report. Last Monday there were 38 positive cases reported, so does that mean Public Health estimates 570 people currently have active Covid in Jefferson County? 2. I would like to know how Dr Berry said with some confidence on January 3rd health update that we will may be able to stop masking in the Spring. The new Omicron sub-variants keep coming and the viral strain identification of the sub-variants in most of the nation aren’t being done due to dried up federal funding. It doesn’t seem like indoor masking would no longer continue to be strongly advised anytime soon. How does this work? 3. What will the BOCC health update schedule be in the next few months? Will it be the first and third Mondays at 9:45 on KPTZ? Dr Allison Berry has mentioned in the past that she found some funding so that she could continue with the updates on KPTZ. Will that funding for her excellent information and advice about the current state of the pandemic be cut short because of the inadequate dollars earmarked for public health departments?
