Do not open attachments or click on links if you are not expecting them. ________________________________ Count Me In for Quilcene is designing a 3.1-mile walking path through Quilcene from the Village Store south to the Herb Beck Marina. The project, entitled Quilcene Art, History and Culture Trail, is funded by a grant from the AARP.* The path will be punctuated with 8 or 9 kiosks displaying elements of Quilcene history and culture, along with large 3-dimensional murals of Salish Sea marine life. Four of these kiosks are proposed to be sited along the east side of Linger Longer Road – at Railroad Ave, Fremont Ave, just south of Leadville, and at the Indian George tidelands. These locations hold great historical / cultural importance for Quilcene from indigenous times to present day. CMIQ has identified an ideal site for one of these kiosks at the location of the Audubon Trailhead on Fremont Ave east of Linger Longer Rd. Attached is our application for a Road Access Permit, along with a site plan, images of the kiosk structure and informational content proposed for that site. The full text of CMIQ’s successful grant proposal is also included in the attachments to this email. As you can see, we have addressed our Permit request directly to the Board of County Commissioners, but also copied staff of the Department of Public Works who have provided helpful guidance over the past six months. Please let me know if further information is needed. Respectfully, Linda Herzog, Pres. Count Me In for Quilcene * CMIQ is a federally certified 501(c)(3) charitable organization whose purpose is to support the well-being of the South County community, its families and businesses. Fourteen community organizations endorsed CMIQ’s proposal to the AARP and continue to work with us on the project. Upon the AARP’s grant award in June, we began discussing this project with Commissioner Brotherton, the Parks/Rec and Transportation staff of the Public Works Dept, the Parks Advisory Board, the Quilcene Museum, Skokomish Tribal leadership, the Hood Canal Salmon Enhancement Group, and the Jefferson Land Trust. We’ve continuously exchanged ideas with Quilcene residents at community meetings, the next of which is scheduled for January 26.
