Photo by Christina Epperson-Auger. While winter is still in full swing, local farmers are busy prepping as growing season swiftly approaches. Now is the time to sign up for a farm share with one of the many nearby Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs! CSAs build local community and food security by offering weekly shares of fresh, healthy food grown right here on the Peninsula. Subscribing to a CSA brings local foods into your eating habits, helps you learn new recipes, supports local businesses, and deepens your connection with the Olympic Peninsula. Margaret Jakubcin captured this scene while on a tour of the area with the Land Trust in late December. This high water event occurred just after rain melted all of the accumulated ice and snow from the storm just before Christmas. Water entered the floodplain for the first time since it was reconnected to the river with the levee setback in Fall 2022 - instantly turning into incredible salmon habitat.
