Hello Hospital Advocates,
The Washington State Legislature is once again considering a proposal to impose rigid staffing mandates on hospitals, among other staffing restrictions. Senate Bill 5236 will be heard
next week before the House Labor and Commerce Committee at 10:30 am on Tuesday, January 17. WSHA is arranging for testifiers in opposition to this legislation, but we need people to
show their opposition by signing-in to oppose the bill. Committee members pay attention to how many people sign-in on each side of an issue.
Sign-in must be completed by 9:30 am on January 17. Below are directions for how to sign-in.
More background: WSHA strongly opposes SB 5236 which would impose rigid staffing minimums and extend other workplace regulations that will only further hamper hospitals’ ability to mitigate
the impacts of staffing shortages and ensure patients receive the care they need when they need it. If hospitals had to comply with these regulatory requirements at any time more procedures
would be delayed, more people would wait hours for emergency care, and some hospital units would, at times, have to stop accepting patients for their medically necessary care altogether.
