Noxious Weed Control Board 2013-2017 BOARDS and COMMISSIONS VOLUNTEER APPLICATION/STATEMENT OF INTEREST Page 2 Why are you applying for this appointment? I am committed to community service, and this board fits my interests and skill sets. I have been interested in serving on this board since 2015. Parks and trails play a vital role in our county. I feel it would be beneficial to have the equestrian community be represented on the board. List your qualifications for this appointment (include skills, activities, training, etc.): I have served on the Jefferson Co. Master Gardeners Foundation Board, I am currently the Director and Work Projects Coordinator for Buckhom Range Chapter - BCHW. I have received extensive training in communication and leadership through Landmark Education in their various seminars, workshops and programs. I have experience working with public land agencies such as Olympic National Forest and WA State Dept. of Natural Resources, and for the last 6+ years have worked in partnership with Quimper Trails Association at Gibbs Lake Co. Park on the trail system. I worked with Jefferson County Parks Director Matt Tyler in obtaining a grant through BCHW to replace an existing foot/bike bridge with a Type III puncheon suitable for equestrian use. I designed and maintain the chapter's website, buckhombchw.org. I have been the A!V tech for JCMG's Lawn & Garden lecture series for over 15 years. It is desireable for Advisory Board and Commission members to have a broad collective knowledge and interest in various ethnic, religious, cultural, educational and community views. Describe your strengths in this area: As an aging Caucasian male I don't feel I have much to say about my strengths in this. I have always considered myself a liberal thinker who has tried to educate myself about as many different cultural and ethnic experiences as I can. I love to read about history, travel, and other cultures. As a musician I have strong affinity for blues and R&B. I feel that parks and recreation can be important aspects of community and education. I have no religious affiliation. Additional information you would like to provide about yourself: My biggest passion in life outside of music would have to be trails. I have been hiking since I was a small child, I am an avid backpacker and love riding my horse through our beautiful and varied landscapes. I want to be involved in the development of new trails as well as enhancing and maintaining our existing trail systems, both front and back country. I understand the member responsibilities, and am aware that this appointment wig entail my attendance at meetings and participation in activities of this Board/Commission.
