HomeMy WebLinkAbout012323 today's meeting Jan 23 Stroh flood-Sorry_ I meant to send from THIS email-disregard the other________________________________ ALERT: BE CAUTIOUS This email originated outside the organization. Do not open attachments or click on links if you are not expecting them. ________________________________ Good afternoon everyone; Thank you for the opportunity to bring our concerns to you today. From your answers, it is apparent that some of you did not hear or understand what we were saying and asking this morning. I have a feeling we will not be able to solve this problem together. Because we couldn't answer or ask questions or refute what you were saying, it was really frustrating to be a captive audience. We had to sit and listen to a lot of rhetoric from Ms. Dean and Mr. Butler about things that did not pertain at all to what we were asking. This is not about climate change or being a part of a government program, this is about someone doing the right thing and taking responsibility. By the way, Jefferson Emergency Services applied to the state to see if FEMA will intervene. We have been in contact with Keppie Keplinger, who is awesome by the way. But because we can't have a conversation at those meetings, we couldn't say that. Here was our concern: We want to know why we weren't informed about the new flood plains, when all of our neighbors who had a mortgage (and banks) were informed? Did I mention-NO ONE in our neighborhood had flood insurance until they were forced by their mortgage company? Yes I did. What about these options for letting others know if they are in a flood plain- 1. Obviously, the assessor's office knows where everyone lives. We get a postcard from them every year. Could there be a stamp on that that reads something like this? Bold and in red.             YOU ARE NOW IN A FLOOD PLAIN. YOU SHOULD HIGHLY              CONSIDER OBTAINING FLOOD INSURANCE 2. Or, on our taxes. There is certainly no problem getting that mail to us and making sure we have paid those. Same info stamped on that or on an additional paper. Not everyone reads the newspaper. You are not reaching very many people. And, may I add, we DO pay our taxes which pay for YOUR salary. We pay all of them. On time, but usually early. We are kind people, we follow the rules, we help our neighbors and others in need. And for that, we are being, I will use the word "dinged", but can think of other, more colorful words. We are also interested that Mr. Butler did not ask us for a quote for his article. He specifically asked Jeff for one in person when Jeff was in community development on January 13. I sent an email to Mr. Butler containing some information he asked for when he and Jeff met and I let him know that we would love to comment, but neither of us heard back. Since you are not taking any responsibility for this situation, where should we go next? We've given you some viable options, it would be helpful to have some from you.
