Hello Olympic Peninsula Community Member,
I’m writing today to share information about WSDOT upcoming construction work this summer and beyond. We recognize the North Olympic Peninsula is popular destination and many of you
and your neighbors drive, work, or recreate via a state highway. Starting this summer and continuing through the next several years, major routes in the area will experience multiple
construction projects that will affect the flow of traffic.
We have attached maps of projects that will be in construction in 2023 and 2024 with short descriptions of what to expect as a traveler. Also included are ways to stay informed about
construction and travel delays. With more than a dozen projects of varying size, travelers will experience alternating one-lane traffic, shifted traffic lanes, bridge closures, and
detours. Heavy construction is expected each construction season (summer to fall) through 2025. This is in addition to our regular year-round maintenance activities. This work is necessary
to keep our transportation system in a state of good repair, remove barriers to fish passage, and maintain the movement of people and goods across the peninsula and Hood Canal that
are so important to our quality of life and the economic vitality of our state.
If you are interested, I can offer an in-person briefing with me or another WSDOT representative to learn more about how these construction projects may affect you. Please email Christi
Bentz, Olympic Region Executive Assistant to schedule a briefing. We will do our best to accommodate your schedule.
We look forward to answering your questions and addressing any concerns you may have.
Thank you,
Steve Roark
