HomeMy WebLinkAboutPort Townsend Marine Trades Association - Maintain Office Space 5 years $20,000 To Our Honorable Commissioners of Jefferson County 12/ 16 / 22 We are asking for your support, As you well know, the PTMTA Economic Impact Study was done in 2018 and its results showed the Port Townsend Marine trades are vital to the sustainability of Jefferson County and it residents. We where over 20% of the economy at that time and we have worked hard, through some of the hardest times for businesses in the past few years, yet we were for the most part, essential and we pressed on with the tasks at hand. The first EIS was fully funded by our members, businesses, donations and sponsors. The EIS update is planned for 2023, the Port of Port Townsend has made a 25 K commitment; this is a great start and I believe that the results will only help to expand our abilities and growth. The dollars generated for other government businesses exceeds 10 million (7M plus to the Port in EDA funding, NW School of Wooden Boat and the NW Maritime Center received grant monies based on the EIS), it also helped leading to the passing of the IDD, and that is a milestone, I would say. This past year has also brought about some exciting changes and obligations for our organization Our new office in the Nomura building, partnering with the Northwest School of Wooden Boat Building, we now have a home base in which to build on. With that said, we now ask for your support through the ARPA funding process. We are looking to secure a minimum 20 K in overhead support, which will allow us to maintain our office for a five year period. Any additional funds would go towards the EIS update or to operational needs. Funding for staffing the PTMTA is a long term goal and will be part of our ongoing conversations as the board develops. We also have a Life Boat fund, all donations, and support for our trade’s people that have medical, injury or hardship etc. We have to support those that work in sometimes very harsh environments, that is who we are. Thank you for the opportunity to move the PTMTA forward. Peter R. Langley President PTMTA
