Dear Commissioners,
I hope that you will consider my request for completion funds for this highly successful community project.
BirchyVille Garden; Grant Completion Funds for Greenhouse, Veg & Egg Wash Area and wheel chair accessible bathroom.
Total Funds Requested $15,000.00
$2,000.00 to assemble 20 ft/40 ft greenhouse for Winter Veg Production for Food Bank Growers; This was a previously funded project that was engineered for wind security with concrete
footings.
This is part of the Food Bank Growers "Grow A Row” program which is working to fill the gap in produce available at the Food Banks November to February.
$3,000.00 to finish Veg & Egg Wash Area / Plant Lab (Lettuce Hydroponic set up, early plant starting, grafting and cloning for veg & trees); rough & finish Plumbing, rough & finish electrical,
update insulation.
$10,000.00 to build Farm Bathroom for Workers and Guests. (wheel chair accessible).
Electricity, Plumbing and Sewer have been brought to the site with permitted work and partial funding by a grant.
These projects were originated with funds from grants and support from the following organizations: Jefferson County Master Gardeners, Jefferson County Economic Development Council,
Food Bank Food Gardens of Jefferson County, United Good Neighbors and private individuals.
This grant would be administered by the Food Bank Growers.
About Birch;
I currently own and manage 4 rental houses in Port Townsend. I have created a co-housing community that is built around the Food Bank Food Garden (www.birchyvillegardencoop.com <http://www.birchyvill
egardencoop.com> ). Each of our tenants participate in the farm.
We actively grow for the Food Bank Growers (Non Profit 501 c-3) to support Food Security for Seniors in our community.
I volunteer about 1/2 my time and 1/2 my personal income to the Farm. My income comes from my Insurance Agency, Shapiro Benefits Group (ShapiroBenefits.com <http://ShapiroBenefits.com>
; WAOIC # LIC784429) where I am an AARP Authorized Agent.
