HomeMy WebLinkAboutGathering Place re: programs for adults with developmental and other disabilities - $39,500 For 29 years, Gatheringplace has provided programs for adults with developmental and other disabilities. Programs include cooking, intuitive art, dog biscuit bakery, sign language, and music and movement. Our project goals are to expand community awareness, promote inclusion, and increase program accessibility for those with developmental and other disabilities. Secondary goals include recruiting volunteers and board members, and develop outreach aimed at increasing community participation and support. Gatheringplace will achieve these goals by: Hosting art exhibits showcasing the work of our participants in a variety of mediums: Community members will be invited to attend events and meet the artists and learn about the unique talents and contributions that disabled persons can bring to our community. Focus will also be given to volunteer, board, and donor opportunities. Our first art event will be held during the Magic of Christmas in th December 2023. Our second exhibit is scheduled for July 2024 coinciding with our 30 anniversary. Port Townsend Kinetic Sculpture Race participation: Along with the above activities, the Port Townsend Kinetic Sculpture Race has invited us to create a sculpture to be installed along the race path in October 2024. This project will include participants, volunteers, staff, and community members working together to produce a sculpture to raise awareness of Gatheringplace and illustrate our values of inclusion and diversity. Other art exhibits: Gatheringplace will also exhibit participant art at 32 PT Farmer’s Markets as well as area arts & crafts fairs. Emphasis will be placed on volunteer, board member, and volunteer recruitment. Purchase of a used van in good working condition to increase accessibility to programs for participants who do not have transportation: Many with disabilities are excluded from program participation due to lack of transportation. Gatheringplace will acquire a van to ensure that disabled persons have access to programs that will enrich their lives and allow them to become valuable and engaged members of the PT community.
