Thanks to you, the Senate Environment, Energy & Technology Committee heard loud and clear that Washingtonians support working forests and the many benefits they provide. By overwhelming
numbers, committee members got the message that SB 5688 is the wrong solution for supporting our communities and environment.

But once again the DNR is asking the Washington Legislature's approval to push a carbon offset scheme that allows polluters to keep polluting at the expense of our communities.
HB 1789 - just like SB 5688 - lets them set aside more forests to sell carbon offsets, which are expected to provide just a fraction of the revenue generated by sustainable timber harvests
while requiring us to import more wood products from other countries and substitute less-environmentally friendly building products.
Our message to Olympia is simple. Don't give the DNR an unlimited free pass to sell these “carbon offsets” that shut down working forests without reducing emissions or considering the
environmental, socioeconomic, and fiscal impacts on public services.
Please help us send this strong message to the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee. Register your official opposition to HB 1789 before Tuesday, Feb. 14 at 9:30 am to make
sure your voice is heard.
