HomeMy WebLinkAbout022023 Four Weekend Closures Hood Canal Bridge________________________________ ALERT: BE CAUTIOUS This email originated outside the organization. Do not open attachments or click on links if you are not expecting them. ________________________________ Dear Jefferson County Council, I reside on Dabob Bay on the Toandos Peninsula. My husband and I are full time residents. The proposed closure of the Hood Canal Bridge this summer comes as a total surprise. There were no forewarnings that we know of, and the DOT obviously has no concern for the impact this closure has on residents of this area. We have recently lost a young man that was like a member of our family. He spent so much time with our family that he called me his second mom. He was like a brother to my son and daughter. He died of a heroin overdose last year and not one member of his immediate family has taken the time to have a memorial for his passing. Our family has planned his memorial so all his childhood friends can have closure. It is scheduled for July 28th through July 30th here at our home. This memorial has been planned since last fall. We have people coming from as far away as Arizona. Airline tickets have already been purchased and time off from work has already been applied for. The proposed weekends are the best time of the year for weather here in Western Washington so I do understand the DOT wanting to do this repair during the summer; however, proper notification for this kind of extreme inconvenience to residents, both financially and for scheduling purposes, needs to have considerable advance notice, especially during the height of summer. I would appreciate my objection being added to the other complaints from our Olympic Peninsula residents. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Sincerely, Joy S. McDonald
