I am writing to recommend the board of commissioners approve funding for the Port Townsend Pump Track group.
The youth of our community have been profoundly impacted by covid, socially , emotionally and physically. The lack of
concentrated recreational activities in our community is devastating. So many groups and events have not returned post covid for youth.
Also, with the rise of rent and cost of living, families almost certainly have two working parents who do not have the time or energy to
provide their children with extracurricular activities. Plus, these parents are so busy they do not have time to come to public events to make comments
on how their children are suffering. The youth in our community are suffering, they are inside playing video games and have lost three years of prime social
interaction and social learning that they do not have the tools to create community and their parents do not have the time to set up social events for them.
I am begging the commissioners please consider the children in our community when making decisions on these ARPA funds. The amount of money spent on covid was needed, now lets use that
money to rescue the silent suffering children in our community. A pump track will obviously not solve all these problems but it will be a place where children can come and recreate
and socialize in a healthy safe way. It will get them out of their houses, without the need of their parents organizing anything. Please, lets put our children first when thinking
of these funds. They are the ones needing rescuing at this point.
