MINUTES
CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION
Regular Meeting – January 31, 2023, 2:00 p.m.
Jefferson County Courthouse – Commissioners’ Chambers
1820 Jefferson Street, Port Townsend, WA (Hybrid)
CALL TO ORDER: Chair Dennis Cowan participating remotely called
the meeting to order at 2:06 p.m. in the presence of Chief Examiner Steve Richmond, Commissioner Ken
Przygocki, Commissioner Bob Gebo participated remotely, Dan Taylor, and Sarah Melancon, HR
Director present.
PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD: Chair Cowan called for public comments. None received.
Reorganization of the Board; Appointment of Chair for 2023. Bob Gebo appointed Chair for 2023.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Commissioner Gebo moved to approve the minutes of October 25, 2022.
Commissioner Przygocki seconded the motion which carried by a unanimous vote.
OLD BUSINESS:
Briefing on Certification of Eligibility Lists: Corrections Sargent and Patrol Sargent; Commissioner
Praygocki moved to Certify the Eligibility List for Corrections Sargent and Patrol Sargent. Chair Cowan
seconded the motion which carried by a unanimous vote.
NEW BUSINESS:
Discussion on Sheriff’s Office Staffing:
Schedule Examination to Establish Renewed Eligibility List for Support Services; Chief Examiner
Richmond provided an update on testing for Support Services Eligibility List. Approved extension of
eligibility list till 2024. Motion which carried by a unanimous vote.
Chair Gebo and Chief Examiner Richmond discussed additional ways of recruiting. Commissioner
Cowan mentioned recruiting at local high schools.
Regular Meeting dates established last Tuesday of every month, to be published in the PT Leader. Motion
which carried by a unanimous vote.
CALL FOR PUBLIC COMMENT: Chair Gebo called for public comments. Jefferson County Human
Resources Director, Sarah Melancon gave congratulating comment to Jefferson County Jail
Superintendent Fortino for working with PST to establish a local satellite testing opportunity.
ADJOURNMENT: Chair Gebo adjourn the meeting at 2:24 p.m. until the next regular meeting or special
meeting as properly noticed.
