Do not open attachments or click on links if you are not expecting them. ________________________________ We strongly support the DNR's proposed protection of all 826 acres of state forestlands within the Dabob Bay Natural Area boundaries. As private landowners we have lived on Dabob Bay for decades. We believe that the quality of the water, the importance of shellfish to the local economy, and the rare habitat all require us to preserve and protect as much of this remarkable environment as possible. Immunological issues that are associated with the Covid pandemic prevent us from attending the public hearing. However we would like our voices to be heard on this matter. There is already too much clear cutting on the peninsula. This irresponsible transformation of forests to tree farms is already close to the tipping point. We see the increasing slides on the Bay's steep slopes as a direct result of these activities. A few years ago, living on Lemonds Road just below a proposed clear cut, we approached Lloyds of London to grant us Change of Condition insurance. The risk to our water supply, our home, our road, and the beach below seemed at peril if the cutting went ahead. Lloyds underwriters performed a comprehensive study of the locality, the flooding consequences of historical cutting in this area and other risk factors. They concluded that there were no terms or conditions under which they would provide this insurance. For goodness sake, Lloyds will insure practically anything, but this was one bet they were unwilling to take. We believe this provides another powerful indication of the need for DNR to preserve and protect the 826 acres, which include the Lemonds Forest. DNR has an opportunity to fulfill its mandate through the support of the Dabob Natural Area Boundaries. This is the time for that promise to be kept.
