Subject:Draft Courthouse Security Standards and Requirements Public Comment
I support the current (2/27/2023) Draft Courthouse Security Standards and Requirements policy for the Jefferson County
Courthouse being considered today, and after discussing this with my staff present on 2/27/2023, we fully support
Exception (3) (a) Employees or volunteers of Jefferson County, who present or wear a valid county-issued picture ID.
Since we use multiple doors and frequently access our office on the first floor of the courthouse throughout the week
including when security is not available, it doesn’t serve a purpose to have us screened every time during working hours
since this would be impractical. My appraisers retrieve courthouse mail, and they also are carrying appraisal books
to/from their vehicles that are stationed at the courthouse. Furthermore, we visit every residence in Jefferson County
by statutory requirements typically unannounced so the risk in the courthouse pales to the risk we take in the field.
Thank you,
Jeff Chapman | Jefferson County Assessor
