HomeMy WebLinkAboutAppointment NWB Tami Pokorny JEFFERSON COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST TO: Board of County Commissioners Mark McCauley, County Administrator FROM: Sophie DeGroot, Noxious Weed Control Coordinator DATE: March 6, 2023 SUBJECT: Jefferson County Noxious Weed Board Member Appointment STATEMENT OF ISSUE: The Jefferson County Noxious Weed Control Board is a County Board consisting of 5 voting members, one from each Weed District as determined by Resolution 33-12. We currently only have seats filled in District 1 and District 2. Tami Pokorny has applied to be the seated member for District 3. ANALYSIS: As you will see in her application, Attachment A, Tami Pokorny is involved in the primary production of agricultural products on her own property, as well as restoration projects that are directly impacted by invasive species in her work with Jefferson County Public Health. She also coordinates the Conservation Futures committee. Through her personal and work experience with agriculture, conservation, and natural resources here in Jefferson County, I believe she will bring a valuable point of view to the JCNWCB. FISCAL IMPACT: Pokorny's appointment to the Board would seat a quorum. This means that the board can make Final Decisions and take Action to support the work I do as Coordinator. There is little to no cost associated with appointing a board member. However, the impact on being able to make decisions around mitigation and control of noxious weeds in Jefferson County is significant. RECOMMENDATION: I recommend appointing Tami Pokorny to the District 3 Board Seat of the Jefferson County Noxious Weed Control Board. REVIEWED BY: ,.7— Mark McCauley, C my Administrator Date
