Greetings DNR (and CC'd Jefferson County Commissioners),
I am writing to support the WA DNR's proposed protection of 826 acres of state forests within their timber program that lies in the current boundaries of the Dabob Bay Natural Area.
These proposed areas include Lemonds Forest, Lower Thorndyke Creek, and slopes and forest along the east side of Dabob Bay.
The Trust Land Transfer process will permanently protect these lands while providing replacement timber lands to the county and its junior taxing districts.
Jefferson County will receive an excellent financial benefit from exchanging these parcels for less ecologically-sensitive lands that can be logged. Currently the parcels are neither
permanently protected nor in a harvest rotation. Let's get this project out of limbo.
This project has been stalled since DNR's previous hearing in August 2021, when they received nearly unanimous support. Given the many slow-downs, I hope you will move this proposal
forward without delay.
Approving this project leaves an ecological legacy of which we can all be extremely proud. Thank you to all who have been working for many years to move this project along.
Sincerely,
Judith Rubin
