Click here to find out <https://wildliferecreation.us9.list-manage.com/track/click?u=0f4ebc0827fada7e62b54ea21&id=03774ca6a8&e=8c3506b728> <https://mcusercontent.com/0f4ebc0827fada7e62b54ea21/images/e7fe9c43-b906-256b-c56c-20e4251b3809.png> Coalition's Call For Additional Funding The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office announced the award of more than $2 million in grants to help diverse, urban neighborhoods and rural communities plan for outdoor recreation facilities. But out of a total of 99 applicants, only 20 are being funded fully and one is being funded partially. This leaves 78 applicants without funding for crucial planning work that will go a long way towards addressing access disparities in the outdoors. The Coalition, together with other recreation and conservation partners, have contacted the legislature urging full funding ($10 million in additional funds) for these grants. We believe that it is especially important to set a precedent that equity matters and recent studies have shown that planning grants are needed to address access disparities. Overall, we had 133 advocates sign up for the virtual day—a great turnout for democracy and a showing of great support for the Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program! These 133 advocates spanned across 41 of our 49 legislative districts. Out of these advocates, 48 out of the 133 were new to legislative day (including myself)! It was amazing to see everyone come together to articulate what WWRP means to them and to take advantage of the opportunity to speak directly to legislators. The City of Poulsbo is using this grant to construct a fully inclusive playground that includes new playground equipment and numerous sensory stations designed to accommodate physical disabilities and provide a sensory rich experience. The City is creating a playground footprint that features a soft, padded synthetic surface and wheelchair accessible ramps. The new equipment includes specially designed pieces such as a wheelchair-friendly merry-go-round, inclusive teeter-totter, extra-wide slides, and swing seats. Erick’s ride serves as not only an invitation to learn the story, but also a means of paying homage to the Buffalo Soldiers’ 25th Infantry Bicycle Corps by reliving their history.
