Thank you, Lynn Sorensen KPTZ Virus Watch Team Questions for Dr Allison Berry: 1. I’ve received 2 vaccinations and 2 boosters. But my last booster was September 16, 2022. They’ve all been Pfizer shots. (BTW I had a positive PCR test for Covid in January 2022.) I’m planning on flying to Ireland this coming June, 2023. Should I get another booster before going? Pfizer vaccine or another brand? 2. I am 72 and will be traveling to Europe in April, 2023, including a cruise. I had my Moderna Bivalent Booster mid-September 2022. Is it advisable to get another booster? Is there any risk of harm in doing that? 3. Please review the current treatments for COVID - are there others besides Paxlovid? Also, please elaborate on when one would consider taking Paxlovid including the pros and cons of taking Paxlovid. Also, does taking Paxlovid affect the likelihood of developing long COVID? 4. A recent (2023) Cochrane study concludes that there is little evidence that wearing masks of any kind does much to stop the spread of Covid. Please comment. Also, in a large church fellowship hall, with good filtration and high ceiling and maybe 50 people, how risky is it to go without masks and eat together? Thank you for your work and specifically your willingness to answer our questions. 5. Recently I keep hearing about people getting COVID-19 despite having the required vaccinations and boosters. My COVID-19 vaccinations and boosters have all been by Pfizer. Would getting a Moderna booster now offer me more protection? My last booster was September 2022. 6. I believe that COVID tests are expected to be good for some time after the expiration date. I took a test from an iHealth test kit that was from July year and also one from August. Neither of the test-colored lines appeared. I read online some iHealth kits were recalled. That may have been mine. Is that the way to know they are no longer good? What are the general guidelines for how long tests are good for after expiration? 7. Have Public Health Departments around the country pushed back against the Federal government’s plan to withdraw funding for vaccines and home tests come the middle of May? How did the Feds determine that the pandemic was ‘over’, with hundreds of citizens still dying everyday? How much funding will Jefferson County Public Health department lose when the above plan is inn-acted?
