Earth Day is celebrated around the world on April 22nd each year. Locally, the Port Townsend Main Street Program staff and dedicated volunteers go out and spruce up downtown in preparation for Spring. Projects can included extensive weeding at Adams Street Park, planting new shrubs, adding to the planters at Tyler Street Plaza and cleaning street furniture. Merchants in the historic districts are invited to give special attention to their storefronts this week by tackling sidewalk litter and fixing up their planters or ordering flower baskets for their stores. HUD Low Interest Loans are available to rehab commercial buildings. The LENT Low Interest Loan Program is for Port Townsend Commercial Historic Districts business owners, to offset some of the financial impacts businesses endure from emergency situations.
