Good Morning WSAC Members,
As I am sure you are all aware, broadband is an important topic for all of our communities ~ west to east and urban to rural. We are all looking forward to the announcement of much anticipated
funding from the Federal government expected later this year in a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) as part of the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) Program. The construct
of this NOFO relies heavily on the FCC Broadband Serviceable Location “Fabric” Map. The Washington State Broadband Office (WSBO), and assisted by the Washington State University Extension
offices throughout the state are there to help you meet the series of goals to ensure what is submitted to the FCC is the best possible representation of our state in the formulation
of the award eligible amounts.
The second of two “bulk challenges” to the current version of the FCC fabric map (version 2) is due tomorrow, March 15. WSBO and WSU realize that many counties do not have staff and
resources available to conduct the review of the FCC fabric map for missing locations on their own as it is a time consuming and GIS-intensive effort. Therefore, with WSU, WSBO is making
arrangements to submit bulk challenges for Washington state tomorrow. We believe the only counties that will be doing a bulk challenge on their own are King, Snohomish and Spokane.
If your county is preparing a submission and does not want to be included in these efforts, please let us know immediately.
