Do not open attachments or click on links if you are not expecting them. ________________________________ Heidi, This afternoon participants in the NWF v. NMFS settlement talks orchestrated by the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, received the following message: "The United States Government Listening Session for non-FMCS Participants is now confirmed for Friday, March 31st from 10:00am-1:00pm PDT with a follow up session planned for Thursday, May 25th. Please plan accordingly as registration links will be sent out soon. Be advised that the registration will include sign up for three-minute speaking slots reserved for non-FMCS Parties and representatives who have never been invited to or attended any of the FMCS Process meetings." We have been hearing for a while that that FMCS was considering having some public engagement opportunity for interested parties not involved in the confidential settlement talks, and this is now confirmed. We have no details beyond those provided above. But we do think that it's critical for salmon and orca advocates to own these meetings, with a powerful preponderance of speakers and non-speaking attendees. We are reaching out to a number of people around the region who would be among the most compelling and diverse array of pro-salmon, pro-orca speakers possible. You are very much on that list. We do not yet know how the people who actually get to speak will be chosen. With 3-minute speeches in a 180-minute meeting -- with time allowed for opening remarks and a closing wrap-up -- I don't see how they can have more than about 50 speakers; demand seems certain to exceed supply. They may select by order signed-up, or by a random draw....We don't know right now. We have heard that they might go public with an announcement and details on how to participate as soon as tomorrow. If you indicate you're willing, let me know and I'll get you the sign-up info as soon as we have it. Thanks, Marc Sullivan, Western Washington Coordinator Save Our wild Salmon Coalition
