Phase 2 Updates We have been Open for Play since November 19th, 2022 It's been great to see so many families getting enjoyment out of the playground, and many may wonder what more do we need? What will Phase 2 bring? Phase 2 is for the littles! We had hoped to build the entire playground as planned, but budget overruns didn't allow for this. What's missing is the play structure we had designed for the 2-5-year-olds. Separate play areas are often designed into playgrounds, so the younger children don't get trampled or overwhelmed by all the big kids running around. We designed JUMP! with this in mind and want to complete our vision so all kids and their parents feel safe and have fun without worry. Most of the existing features at JUMP! are for the older crowd. The Net Climber, which is the FIRST ACCESSIBLE Net Climber in the state of Washington, is designed for the 5-12-year-olds, along with the Rock Climbing area and slide structure off the hill. It doesn't mean the younger kids can't play on all of the equipment, but for some toddlers, a separate area with structures and sensory play geared for their age is much more inviting and safer. We are also considering a shade structure over the Sea Snail Plaza and another Salish Sea-themed Art Gate at the entrance off the perimeter trail. More ADA parking spots will be provided near the new trails by the Transit Stop and the parking spot closest to the perimeter trail entrance to the playground will be designated as a 15-minute Unload and Loading Zone, so families with many kids and strollers, walkers, etc can park by the shorter path to enter the playground and leaving it available for the next family. <https://mcusercontent.com/026fe9cf2f2bf19fe17821626/images/7f38ff81-e5cc-c06f-6540-842e51394e5a.jpg> <https://mcusercontent.com/026fe9cf2f2bf19fe17821626/images/d5c433d3-06f2-a599-2e25-feae1d6a9a8f.png> Fundraising Goal for Phase 2 Phase 1 of the playground including new accessible paths, what you see today, was over $1,400,000 to construct. Phase 2 of the playground including 2-5-year old play structures, new Art Gate, Shade over plaza and new paths in the park to make it more accessible from the transit stop and Rotary pavilion is budgeted at $605,000. This includes tax, installation and is also adjusted for inflation. JUMP! and Parks & Rec are hoping to raise the 30% match required by the RCO (Recreation Conservation Office) <https://jumpplayground.us18.list-manage.com/track/click?u=026fe9cf2f2bf19fe17821626&id=68 f3fe29d6&e=86e960d295> where we will be applying again for another grant to fund the majority of this project. We are hoping to raise $150,000 with the County applying for 2 specific grants for $30,000. This will meet the requirements for the RCO, which so generously supported us on Phase 1 with the maximum $500,000 grant. We will be applying to the RCO in 2024 when the Local Parks grant category opens. We want to show the RCO that we have the Community Support and Finances to proceed with completing the JUMP! playground.
