I provided a brief view on housing. I believe you spoke with Matt Sircely recently about his views on housing. He presented his critically important concepts to the Planning Commission last week. Attached is my view on housing for the County. There has been little encouragement through economic development strategies to encourage property owners, developers, builders and Jefferson County leadership to focus on eco-friendly homes for the Jefferson County service industry, farmland workforce, marine trades, artisans and new threshold public employees, such as county employees, teachers, healthcare workers, laborer’s and young professionals. The County appears to have focused more on single family residential development and withholding commercial business growth over the years. Should this growth management concept of residential development continue, consider focusing on a housing development plan that meets all societal economic interests, particularly low-, and moderate-income workers. These important employees need eco-friendly cottages, boarding-houses and apartments with innovative bio-waste systems instead of inflexibly expensive design standard requirements. Make adequate provisions for duplexes, triplexes, townhomes and apartment complexes in the urban growth area. Embrace rural residential and urban growth area home development for an integrated residential system. Implementing innovative and less insidious residential development codes may improve and expedite the growth of all levels of dwellings in all zoned residential property. Respectfully, Michael Nilssen (360) 473-3236 nilssen51@gmail.com <mailto:nilssen51@gmail.com>
