Before working for the police department, she worked for the Thurston County Prosecuting Attorney’s office championing alternatives to the criminal justice system and supporting treatment courts. Since 2000 the conference has brought together expert speakers and teachers with legal, clinical, and lived experience. The conference is designed for attorneys, law enforcement, public and private clinicians; public healthcare and hospital administrators, social workers, policy designers and legislators, and organizations and individuals involved with the care and welfare of people with mental illness, addiction, and alcoholism. For 2023 our subject is Alternatives to Police. Day One will focus on policy, data, and research, and Day Two will have reports from city-based teams around the country. Elected in 2019, she is the city’s second female mayor and the first out LGBTQ person to serve as Mayor of Madison. In 2022 she announced the launch of Madison CARES - a mobile crisis team. Adam Smith Representing the 9th Congressional District in Washington State, Rep. Smith is the Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee. He has been a champion for Federal funding for alternative mobile services, to establish standards and training for 911 dispatchers, and to fund crisis stabilization centers.
