Now is the time to protect more culturally and historically significant sites as national monuments.

Over the past year activists like you have been ramping up the pressure on President Biden to protect culturally and historically significant sites across the country. Last year, he
designated his first national monument -- Camp Hale-Continental Divide in Colorado. Now he's taken another step forward with not one, but two designations: Avi Kwa Ame in Nevada and
Castner Range in Texas! His administration also announced new protections for South Dakota's Rapid Creek watershed, including a 20-year ban on mining in the area 1. Our efforts are
paying off, but more work must be done to protect our culturally and historically significant sites.
Send a message to President Biden calling on him to continue to protect culturally significant sites by designating the site of the 1908 Springfield Race Riot in Illinois next. <http://click.emails.s

Take Action! <http://click.emails.sierraclub.org/?qs=e60b78dfdf536e68cec1e6338a885685171d0ad1e24c3e80827644f75978ea327629f0f7fac2c6eadea839e4e92832db764feb53ddd7f86cdb570321d7c9aa10>
Dear John,
We heard great news from the administration today as President Biden designated two new national monuments: Avi Kwa Ame in Nevada and Castner Range in Texas!
Avi Kwa Ame is a landscape of cultural and religious significance to twelve different groups of Indigenous peoples 2. It is located within the Mojave Desert, which is a fragile ecosystem
threatened by climate change and development. As a new national monument, the treasures of this desert landscape -- from prehistoric turquoise mining sites to important desert bighorn
sheep habitat -- will be protected for generations to come.
Castner Range is a crown jewel of West Texas, containing prehistoric habitations dating back more than 10,000 years, rare and endangered wildlife, and opportunities for outdoor recreation
and climate change mitigation. Designating this area as a new national monument will protect this land's unique cultural, historical, scientific and environmental attributes; provide
local economic opportunity, and expand public lands access to local communities.
Send a message to President Biden now to thank him for taking this important step, and urge him to keep up the momentum by designating the site of the 1908 Springfield Race Riot in Illinois
next. <http://click.emails.sierraclub.org/?qs=e60b78dfdf536e68c082b9be2db1a01852156fd6e78d56ddca3d97b651359d7208262b8900e76e56d9d3cf8fcb64898ee439d33d5c2ffe7b1f19e19104f60624>
This is a huge step forward when it comes to protecting culturally and historically significant sites, but it's just the beginning! All people should be able to see themselves and their
communities on public lands. Our monuments must reflect these critical histories and legacies of our country.
That is why we are calling on President Biden to designate the 1908 Springfield Race Riot site as a national monument next. Take action now! <http://click.emails.sierraclub.org/?qs=e60b78dfdf536e68b1

In 1908, a white mob in Springfield, Illinois started a devastating race riot. The mob attacked and lynched Black people and burned their homes. This was one of the country's worst examples
of mass racial violence, and led to the founding of the NAACP.
A few years ago, archeologists found the remains and artifacts of some of these homes. This spurred a campaign to establish the location as a national monument and commemorate this tragic
legacy. Public lands must represent the diverse American experience.
Join me in thanking President Biden for protecting Avi Kwa Ame and Castner Range, and call on him to take action now to protect the 1908 Springfield Race Riot site next. <http://click.emails.sierracl
