Here’s what I’m focused on

Dear friend,
President Joe Biden recently released his proposed budget for our country for the year ahead. Like I’ve said before, a budget is a statement of values, and this budget shows that his
values are with American families and workers.
As Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee—the committee that ultimately decides how we spend our money—I’m now pushing full steam ahead with my colleagues in the Senate to make
sure we're moving forward in a bipartisan, timely, and responsible way to write and pass funding bills that meet the needs of our families and communities.
Our committee has been holding a number of hearings with Administration officials to hear more about their budget requests and assess our country’s needs for the year ahead.
I’m reaching out because I think it’s important you know how focused I am on making sure we invest in making our country safer, stronger, and more competitive—and in giving every family
a fair shot to succeed and every kid a brighter future. That means making strong investments not just in our military and national security, but also in the programs that touch families’
lives every day and keep our country on the cutting edge.
Because every family deserves clean drinking water. Parents shouldn’t have to choose between putting food on the table or getting medical care. And we can’t compete on the world stage
if we don’t invest in our kids and ensure all of them can get a great public education and pursue their higher education goals.
And we have also got to tackle the child care crisis. That newly paved road to that new manufacturing plant won’t do working parents any good if they don’t have reliable child care.
The bottom line: we all want a strong country—and that starts with having strong families and communities.
What issues are most important to you in our nations budget? (Pick up to 3)
making sure the wealthiest corporations pay their fare share in taxes
lowering the cost of health care
strengthening WA state's transportation
protecting Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security
making child care affordable and accessible
investing in climate action
keeping our military prepared and country safe
supporting our veterans
investing in affordable housing

So as we work on writing our spending bills here in the Senate, know that I’m laser-focused on making sure we are putting people in Washington state and across the country front and
center.
In service,
Patty Murray
United States Senator for Washington state
