Included was $100 million in funding for the Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP). This level was a drop from the Senate’s proposed funding level of $120 million. We strongly urge the House to meet or exceed the Senate and Governor’s proposed level in discussions moving forward, “Robust funding for the WWRP is critical for Washington.” said Christine Mahler, Executive Director of the Washington Wildlife and Recreation Coalition. “While we greatly appreciate the House maintaining last biennium’s funding level of $100 million, we know that the necessity for matching or exceeding $120 million is there. We want to honor them! 2023 Award Nominations open The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Coalition's Fall Celebration is scheduled for October 12, 2023 but we're already deep into the planning process. Now, we want your input! Nominate people who inspire you within the outdoors community. There are three awards people can be nominated for: * Joan Thomas Award: Recognizing conservation champions who have worked tirelessly to ensure that the next generation has access to the same beautiful parks, wildlife habitat and working farms that we enjoy today. * Evans-Lowery Distinguished Leadership Award: Recognizing individuals or organizations forging unique collaborations to achieve big things in the outdoors. * Forward Award: Recognizing young leaders leading the way to protect Washington's natural places. State Parks used this grant to replace 29 standard campsites at Dosewallips State Park with 14 utility campsites and a new associated ADA-compliant comfort station. The older 29 campsites were located downstream of the Highway 101 bridge and flooded regularly, making them unusable in certain seasons and requiring extensive staff time for clean-up.
