Mr. McCauley,
I would prefer to keep this private, due to the nature of this event.
I am writing to express my appreciation for the assistance I received from two of your employees, Matt Stewart and a deputy (sorry, no name). This morning I found myself driving through
Port Hadlock when I heard a 911 call on my radio at the PH Marina past the Ajax Café. The dispatcher reported of a fire, explosion and CPR in progress on a floating barge. I knew I
would probably beat the closest fire engine or ambulance.
As I headed down Lower Hadlock I saw Mr. Stewart parking his car and running to the scene. We both arrived as the Battalion Chief was giving assessing the patient and the first fire
engine arrived. One of your deputies arrived soon after with his gloves on ready to assist. We had one significant patient. It was a traumatic scene that is unlikely to have a good
outcome.
The actions of Mr. Stewart and the deputy were exemplary. Both helped as directed as we scrambled to load the critical patient. This incident highlights one of the main points I shared
with the County’s Strategic Plan facilitator with Berrydunn the other day.
It seems to me the best thing about Jefferson County is the interconnected agencies are working together at a high degree of effectiveness, while looking for new opportunities to support
each other.
Thank you to your team.
