Our team applied for the "Last Call" funding from Jefferson County and was one of the 17 local projects awarded. This award of $80,000 will go directly towards pouring foundations and/or framing our future houses for the Dundee Hill project. Thanks JeffCo! Located in Port Townsend, the Dundee Hill project will be a five unit, multifamily structure serving families who earn up to 80% of the area median income. Each home will be owned by a local family who would not otherwise be able to afford a home in this market. This project will establish our organization as a creative and productive housing provider. In addition to five units of housing, the Dundee Project will also hold land for a community garden, building food security and open space into our vision and design. Our outreach coordinator, Kellen Lynch <mailto:kellen.lynch@outlook.com> , is leading the effort to connect dollars to Dundee Hill. With new donors standing up each month, we've now raised over $315,000 in contributions to support Dundee. We are aiming to raise an additional $260,000 by August 1 to meet our internal funding threshold, so if you or your network wishes to see more permanently affordable housing built in our area, this project is for you - contact us for sponsorship details! However, this process did not explicitly mandate affordability with any change, despite regular and pronounced public comment demanding protections for the livability of the city. The amendments included changes to ADUs (you can now build two), cottage development (more cottages, less land required), unit lot subdivision (townhouses), employer-sponsored housing (temporary, on-site housing for employees allowed), parking (not as strict) and tiny houses (can count as an ADU, and multiple can be sited in a community). We successfully worked with the City and are now able to build attached single family buildings and without the need to create condominiums. This is a win for non-profit development. Quick Updates - Housing Trust Fund: We were not awarded during the spring funding round for this grant, but this may work in our favor as we are still securing other critical project elements, like our general contractor. We will reapply in September and look forward to being awarded in December, 2023. - Housing Futures Institute: We have now completed two of our three state-funded community land trust conferences hosted by the Housing Futures Institute. To our delight, these conferences have been an amazing opportunity to dive into the weeds on housing trust program ideas and meet a group of people from around the PNW (Alaska to Montana) who are dedicated to the community land trust model and building all kinds of permanently affordable housing.
