Dear County Commissioners,
From: Stephen J. McDevitt, Port Townsend
I strongly support the resolution in support of decriminalizing entheogens in Jefferson County For over four years, I have supported the efforts of the Port Townsend Psychedelic Society
(PTSP) to decriminalize the personal use of Entheogens, and promote the legalization of such substances.
* I am in recovery from Substance Abuse Disorder, and after many years of trying various "programs", found that entheogens, such as "Magic Mushrooms", have definitely helped in my recovery.
* They are one of the most effective tools in my recovery medicine box, along with a healthy lifestyle, and participation in a Twelve Step Program.
* I have researched the subject in depth and am convinced that with education and community support, it is a very effective and safe tool for healing addiction in people of any sex,
race or ethnicity.
* I believe that Entheogens can also be an effective tool in the rehabilitation and treatment of people suffering from PTSD, Fear of Death, Grief, Depression, Anxiety and other related
therapies, and treatments, and affected family members.
* I believe that we should educate and create a community information portal to address potential benefits and risks and legitimate legal issues, rather than criminalization, and fear.
* I believe we should be able to grow and use our own safe and non-addictive natural medicines, instead of limiting access to medicine only through licensed vendors.
* I have become a better citizen, as a result of my treatment with entheogens and am an active member of my community by using my life experience and skills to help solve problems and
issues we face.
* Happy and healthy people make happier and healthier communities and we all deserve to be happy and healthy.
* I will continue to support the PTSP's efforts for decriminalization of these medicines at the local, county, state and federal government level, by voting for those who support such
measures as this to decriminalize entheogens.
Thank you for your time and care for our community.
Respectfully,
Stephen J. McDevitt
