To Jefferson County Board of Commissioners:
I would like to wholeheartedly encourage you to pass the Resolution in Support of Decriminalizing Entheogens that is before you.
I am 77 years old and have been a resident of Port Townsend for 23 years having retired here after a career in the microelectronics industry working as a research scientist and manager.
I received a Ph.D. in physics from Oregon State University in the year 2000 and spent the next 20+ years working in the high tech sector as well as in various educational positions.
As I approach the end of my life, I find that my explorations are naturally moving from the external world of physics to the internal world that is the domain of metaphysics and religion.
Each domain requires appropriate tools for its explorations and I feel that the tools required for metaphysical exploration have been graciously and freely provided to us by nature
in the form of the various entheogens that surround us.
I believe that I have a right to explore my inner world using these tools without feeling that I am doing something illegal. Nor do I want to see these tools co-opted and controlled
by either private or governmental agencies. They are safe, they are beneficial, they are nature's gifts and they should be freely available to all of us without fear of legal recriminations.
For these reasons as well as others outlined in the resolution itself, I would again ask that you pass the Resolution in Support of Decriminalizing Entheogens that is before you.
