Dear County Commissioners,
My name is Kelly Weld, and I am a licensed mental health clinician who lives in Port Hadlock.
I am writing on behalf of myself and our community, asking that you pass the resolution on entheogens.
As a clinical psychologist and psychotherapist, I am keenly aware of the research that underscores the positive results of entheogens on mental, emotional and social health (including
anxiety, depression, PTSD, etc).
My own life has dramatically improved through intentional use of entheogens. I have a stronger sense of Self and a greater understanding of our interconnectedness; my death anxiety has
disappeared and I enjoy a spiritual life that did not previously exist. I have heard similar transformations from others; these entheogens are truly and fundamentally helpful for individuals
and communities.
These medicines grow naturally and abundantly in this area; it seems only appropriate that we move to decriminalize their use in order to protect equitable access (versus allowing corporations
to control and capitalize what is our birthright).
And because these entheogens are so naturally abundant, it is also appropriate that we focus on education and appropriate context to mitigate risks, rather than criminalization (which
has been proven to fail...look at the drug problems in this country despite the criminalization model).
Ultimately I think this is a decision between supporting healthy local community, or corporate interests. Please, support us in being a healthy local community.
Thank you for your time and care.
Respectfully,
Kelly T Weld, MFT
