Re: Support for the Port Townsend Psychedelic Society’s decriminalization resolution
Dear County Commissioners, Mr. Brotherton, Ms. Eisenhour and Ms. Dean,
I strongly support passing the PTPS resolution regarding decriminalizing entheogens.
I have only been in Port Ludlow for a little over 6 months but involvement in the Port Townsend Psychedelic Society (PTPS) has become important volunteer work for me. Our focus is education,
advocacy and building community around the safe and responsible use of these substances.
I helped organize our PTPS End of Life/Deathcare Symposium in November of 2022. The interest in and support for this event became clear when we had initially expected 40 attendees, then
moved to a space that would accommodate 150 and finally one that we met capacity at with 250. Audience members included families with young children and my 89-year-old father-in-law.
We are not a bunch of young hippies looking to get high. My friends and family who are interested in learning more about the healing benefits of entheogens are people like me who want
to improve both our present quality of life and to have the freedom to use these products as we reach the end of our lives. It is established that responsible use of entheogens has
positive effects on the brain, decreases inflammation, and I can attest that they have already helped with my PTSD, anxiety, depression, and fears around aging and death.
Last week I met people at a composting class in Port Townsend who were thrilled that PTPS was coming this week to speak to their retirement communities about the use of psychedelics
at this stage of life. There is wide support in the county for making sure that residents can learn about and use these substances without legal concerns or issues.
Remember that you are responsible to your constituents like me, not to some other politicians, political appointees or members of the law enforcement hierarchy in our county and state.
Serve your county residents who are making this respectful request for the sole purpose of improving their lives and the lives of those in our community. Please approve this resolution
on the decriminalization of entheogens.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Respectfully,
Jeannie Price
