SUBJECT: PROCLAMATION re: Proclaiming May 12, 2023 as Child Care Provider
Appreciation Day
STATEMENT OF ISSUE:
National Provider Appreciation Day is observed annually on the Friday that falls before Mother's Day.
This is a day that takes the time to celebrate all of those people who care for children, including but
not limited to,nannies, childcare providers, and teachers. These are the people that make sure our
children are well taken care of thereby enabling their parents to contribute to our community by
working or volunteering.
The Commissioners are asked to approve a proclamation and ask all residents of this community to
join us in honoring our Child Care Providers who care for children. We welcome the opportunity to
show our appreciation not just during this day, but at every opportunity throughout the year.
FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact to Jefferson County.
RECOMMENDATION•
Approve Proclamation re: Proclaiming the Week of May 12, 2023 as Child Care Provider Appreciation Day.

PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, child care providers are essential members of our community who offer safe, nurturing,
and stimulating environments for children to learn and grow; and
WHEREAS, the COVID-19 pandemic illuminated how indispensable child care providers are for the
well-being and economic security of Jefferson County's young children, families, and communities; and
WHEREAS, child care programs, which are mostly small businesses, are run and staffed
predominantly by women and are still recovering from health and financial hardships stemming from the
pandemic while they have continued to meet the needs of families; and
WHEREAS, child care providers support the economic and social well-being of working families by
enabling parents to pursue their careers and education while knowing their children are in good hands; and
WHEREAS, child care providers contribute to the development of the next generation of citizens by
fostering their physical, cognitive, emotional, and social skills; and
WHEREAS, child care providers demonstrate professionalism, dedication, creativity, and resilience in
their work, especially during the challenging times of the pandemic; and
WHEREAS, child care providers deserve our gratitude, respect, and recognition for their invaluable
service to our children, families, and community; and
WHEREAS, our future depends on the quality of the early childhood experiences provided to young
children today and support for high-quality child care represents a worthy commitment to our children's
future; and
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Jefferson Board of County Commissioners do
hereby proclaim May 12, 2023 as
Child Care Provider Appreciation Day
in Jefferson County and urge all residents to join in celebrating and thanking the child care providers who
make a difference in our lives.
