On April 26, United Ways of the Pacific Northwest, along with local United Ways in Idaho, Oregon and Washington, launched the new ALICE in the Crosscurrents: Covid and Financial Hardship
report, highlighting a large but hidden segment of communities across the nation that struggle to afford basic necessities.
ALICE – Asset Limited Income Constrained Employed, represents households that earn more than the official U.S. poverty level but less than the cost of basics and were already especially
vulnerable to crises when the pandemic hit.
ALICE may be your relative, friend, colleague, or neighbor, or you might be ALICE. ALICE may also be your health care provider, teacher, waiter, retail clerk, and others. ALICE workers
are the backbone of our economy, with the pandemic making it crystal clear just how much we need them.
